It is way too easy for hectic schedules to get in the way of “date night” with your significant other. It is so important to spend real quality time with the one you love…. maybe that is one of your New Year resolutions for 2020?

I’ll make it easy for you (no, I won’t babysit!) Here are 4 different Date night/day options right in beautiful Carleton Place.

Option 1: Foodie/ History buff Fusion

It’s Saturday at 10:15 a.m. and the babysitter has arrived. Time to head to the Carleton Place & Beckwith Heritage Museum to peruse their over 100,000 artifacts from in and around the community. Then head across the street to the Roy Brown Museum and Information Centre and have a peek around this beautiful log home which is a restoration of the first homestead in town.  The building serves triple duty as a museum, visitor information centre and home to the Carleton Place and District Chamber of Commerce. It is 1:00 pm so time to meet up with The Good Food Tour (which meets at the visitor centre) to check out Carleton Place’s diverse and delicious restaurant scene. (Disclaimer – this is a seasonal tour which runs Spring/Summer/Fall)

You will start the tour at the Stalwart Brewing Company sampling their stellar craft beers, carefully paired with charcuterie from the Beckwith Butcher and something sweeter from Beckwith Kitchen. Then you will head to the Boulton House Restaurant along the beautiful Mississippi River. Next up is Chef Ian’s French Bistro fare at the popular Black Tartan Kitchen, followed by something special from Chef Jordan at the Smith & Barrel Pub.  Lastly, you’ll finish up with special desserts at the much-loved Good Food Company.
Option 2: Blind Tasting at Black Tartan and a night cap at Smith & Barrel Pub
It’s Friday night and you’ve made your reservations days ago for a table for 2 at Black Tartan Kitchen. You get to the restaurant and get seated……now to do the 4 or 7 course blind tasting menu??? An exciting and unique dining experience that is sure to satisfy!Let Chef Ian Carswell surprise you with creative courses you won’t find on the menu! Of course, if this is just way too adventurous for you their menu is full of amazing options too.

Next head down to the The Smith & Barrel Pub for a glass of wine, a beer or a delicious hand-crafted cocktail. If you get hungry again you could always order a plate of their deep-fried pickles!

Option 3: Sunday Brunch & Bowling

It’s Sunday at 10 am and you roll out of bed…. or your bed has already been invaded by kiddos! Either way you and your love have a (much needed) reservation for 11:00 am at The Good Food Company.A very popular brunch spot in Carleton Place! They serve fair-trade coffee roasted just up the road in Clayton by Fluid Solar Coffee Roasters and their bread is made a Baker Bob’s! Whether you decide on the Huevos Rancheros or the Eggs Benedict you will be super happy you did.

You finish-up and head over to Chasin’ Turkeys Bowling Alley just down the street. This 5-pin bowling centre, originally built in the late 50’s, changed ownership in 2018 but is still full of character from that time! You don’t need to be amazing at this game to have a load of fun with your partner.

Option 4:  Snowshoe and sip

This option is great for any day of the week, weather permitting. Grab your snowshoes or, rent some from the Beckwith Township office, and head out to the Beckwith Nature Trail for a beautiful snowshoe through the woods. The trails are dog friendly and beautifully maintained. They are also free from motorized vehicles.

All done? Head to the Under Pressure Coffee House for something decadent and warm to finish off your lovely day. They have a huge selection of cakes and treats along with hot chocolate and lattes…. something for everyone.

Let me know what your Option 5 would be?????????
